Powered by RioVision volunteers the Rio Vista Welcomes YOU sign at the western entrance was recreated with love and hard work. After standing tall and strong for many a year after installation by the Womens Improvement Club, the sign finally gave way, falling unceremoniously to the ground, in the wind storm of the year.
RioVision’s City Art Program team jumped into action to bring the sign back. They hoped to use some of the old sign in the new sign, however, it wasn’t meant to be. Team artists Ann Jacobs and Ellen LaVacarre worked to come up with the color palette for the sign. Brian Spradling and his crew constructed and installed the sign, Steve Leder and Ann Jacobs prepared the new wooden letters that were laser cut, Amy Schmidt painted the upper sign using stencils and Marilyn Nelson hand painted the sunset background for the bass metal embellishment that was installed. Finally, Judy Tussy gave her blessing for the final concept that replaced the original sign.
