Solano Safe Routes to School Program Awards $130,000 in Micro Grant Cycle 2 Funding for Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Projects

Suisun City, CA – The Solano Transportation Authority’s (STA) Solano Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Micro Grant Program – Cycle 2 has awarded $130,000 to fund sixteen (16) projects, which will be completed by next year. The goal of the Micro Grant Program is to fund and support bike and pedestrian projects that encourage walking and biking and improve safety around schools in Solano County.

“This is the second round of funding from the STA’s Safe Routes to School Micro Grant Program, and we are excited to see so many more important safety projects being constructed around our schools,” said STA Board Chair and City of Vacaville Mayor Ron Rowlett. “The Micro Grant Program is the only one of its kind in the region that provides this level of funding to support so many local safety projects and programs that serve Solano County students and we look forward to funding even more projects with future rounds.”

Sixteen (16) applications totaling $130,000 in funding requests were received from Solano County cities, schools, school districts, and several community-based organizations, and were awarded funding by the STA Board. These projects include: crossing improvements at schools, radar feedback signs, street improvements, bike lanes, safety signage, bike, and skateboard racks, and walk and bike program incentives and support.  Projects are scheduled to be completed within one year of the award.  Below is the full list of SR2S Micro Grant Cycle 2 awardees:
