Online Event Explores Intersection of Planning, Zoning & Local Food

Because planning and zoning have such a large effect on the local food system — and because many people don’t know the intricacies of how planning and zoning decisions are often made — the Solano Local Food System Alliance will bring in expert speakers to address that topic at its next public meeting from 4-6 pm Thursday, Nov. 3, on Zoom.

This public educational event features keynote speaker Dr. Catherine Brinkley, associate professor in Human Ecology, Community and Regional Development at UC Davis. Solano Land Trust and county-level and city-level planners will also join the panel to address how planning and zoning can affect rural and urban land use and support our local and regional food systems.

The panel will be ready to discuss questions, such as whether there are restrictions on what can be built on agricultural land, or what needs to happen to increase food production in urban areas.

Anyone with questions on how Solano County land use decisions affect the local food system can submit questions for the panelists in advance using this form: https://forms.gle/46vuohWxvvUHTnE49
