The longest day of the year, Summer Solstice, is behind us (June 20) and we look to the coming of hotter temperatures and summer fun! RioVision, as usual, is planning.

Our featured artists for July at the RioVision Gallery downtown are Jill Graham and Cindy Stewart of Birdtown Designs. Close as sisters, Cindy grew up in Bird’s Landing and Jill moved to the Delta in 1982. Their unique jewelry is on display at the Gallery, including their signature crocheted jewelry lariats. You are invited to meet them at their reception at the Gallery on July 20 from 3-5pm.
Come join us for BINGO! on July 27th from 6-9pm in the Veterans Memorial Building, 610 St. Francis Way. Doors open at 5:15pm. Enjoy the taco bar and lots of fun and prizes. A wonderful place to gather as a community. Tickets are available at Pets 4 All and the RioVision Gallery.
The June Community Forum was both fun and informative. Jim and Jan Bard started off the evening with some vibrant local music giving wheat a voice! Talented local farmer and artisan, Robin Lynde brought her spinning wheel, looms, and other essential tools to demonstrate spinning and working with wool to a small but very attentive group of people.
Our Community Forum is taking a summer hiatus in July and August. We will resume in September.
The 10th Anniversary Hog August Bites Street fête and competition will be here before you know it on August 24th! A rollicking community celebration for all ages! Watch for your Fall edition of Discover Rio Vista Magazine with your Beacon toward the end of August! Check your Summer issue (May-August) for articles that may inspire a summer adventure including the 50th Annual Pear Fair in Courtland at the end of July and exploring the Delta Loop, the city of Locke, or trying kayaking, paddleboarding, or windsurfing. Check the article of Rio Vista Youth Services for activities this summer.
Yes, there WILL be a Holiday Home Tour this December! This event has become quite a community favorite and always offers delight and surprise. Our organizing committee is looking for homes within the Rio Vista area to be on the tour. Would you like to decorate and highlight your home? If interested, send an email to info@riovision.net. Please include a picture of the home from previous holidays if possible.
In June, RioVision held an event at The Point in recognition of our many Volunteers who have helped with litter clean up, unique events, city arts program, gallery, DRV magazine, Riverview Garden, library planters, western entrance maintenance, flag program, and the Board, among others. Over seventy volunteers were in attendance for the celebration.
Our City Art Program, who has spearheaded historical murals, the painted sheep on Main Street, and the whimsical fire hydrants, has proposed expanding our public art offerings within the city. We have not received approval to move forward with our Phase 2 proposals. We need your help and support. If you are enjoying the city’s public art, if you value it as an enhancement to our community life, and would like to see more, please let your City Council members know!
Have a safe and happy 4th of July! While Rio Vista does not offer a fireworks display, there are shows available in nearby Suisun City and Vacaville
