With thanks to the City of Rio Vista, Department of Public Works, Robin Borre, Greg Malcolm and the public works team, the concrete was poured and the posts were installed for the “legs” of the shade cover. Unbelievably, Covid-19 even impacted our shade cover! As it was manufactured in New Zealand, we had to wait until the country opened up for the manufacturer to ship it. It finally arrived and with very little fanfare was quietly installed.
RioVision raised funds for the Shade Cover Project during the Party on the Promenade event in 2016, the 6th Annual Hog August Bites event, a Shade Cover Fundraiser which included a GoFundMe Page and many appeals by dedicated RioVision volunteers. RioVision’s chief grant writer, Rich Pettijohn, secured a grant from the Academy of Dermatology.
People are already taking advantage of the shade offered over the picnic bench at the Promenade Park. It’s a nice place to stop for a chat with a friend or just to sit while you enjoy the river view.
Future phases include large shade covers over the concrete slabs and additional smaller shade covers over benches.
