Spring Forward
Daylight savings time is right around the corner and we, too, are springing forward with the season.
We are kicking off our “Rock the Flock” city public art project with a call to artists, 16 years and above, to submit original conceptual designs to paint our five 3-dimensional sheep to be installed along our downtown streets. Sheep ranching has deep roots in our Rio Vista history. Reference the article in the February 9th Beacon or drop by the RioVision Gallery (116 Main) for more information, application form, and design template. SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS SATURDAY MARCH 5th. Designs may include the whimsical and colorful, appropriate for all ages to enjoy, bringing vitality and joy into the heart of our city. Applications and information can also be found at www.riovisiongallery.com.
Come by the Gallery from 3-5pm this Saturday, the 26th, to greet our February artist of the month, gourd painter Diana Peugh, and enjoy her work. On March 19th, from 3-5pm, March featured artist Linda Fead will be available at the Gallery. Linda has worked in two- and three-dimensional media, but is showcasing her unique felting art form. Her art pieces will be on display throughout the month.
We postponed our February Town Hall to March due to COVID precautions. You are now invited to “Meet the Nonprofits” of our community and learn about their volunteer needs and opportunities on March 14th, 7pm, at the Veterans Memorial Building, 610 St. Francis Way. Please come by to hear about what these wonderful organizations do for our community and its citizens, and how you can help.
Rio Vista Litter Pickers is one community organization in which all can participate. In addition to smaller “pick up” projects, the Pickers have one major event a month. During the month of February, clean ups occurred along Airport Rd and Hwy 84. On the morning of March 12th, the focus is Richard Brann Drive. (Grabbers available with notice)
