CLASSIC J-3 CUB DISCOVERED IN HANGAR AT RIO VISTA AIRPORT

No one really knew what was stored behind the doors of hangar C15, for more than 8 years! That is, not until a city employee opened the hangar doors during a recent airport hangar inspection. There sat a beautiful, pristine little yellow, 1946 Piper Cub. Yellow is the signature color for most Piper Cubs, even today.

Burt Camenzino was in front of his hangar, waiting his turn to be inspected, when he noticed the door to hangar C-15 was open. He decided to go take a peek. There she sat in her magnificent beauty, all dusty and dirty from sitting all alone in that hangar for all those years, just waiting for someone to come and clean her up and take her flying.

Burt was able to access Federal Aviation Aircraft records and started looking for her owner. Her original owner installed an 85 HP engine and converted her into a crop duster many years ago. She was later converted back to just being a “Cub”.

Burt hired Bruce Springer, Rio Vista Air Service to get her back into an airworthy condition. Her annual inspection was completed and she made her first flight a couple weeks.

We are going to be sorry to see her go. She is going to her new home in the delta region Maybe we can get her back to Rio Vista to take kids for a ride sometime.
