“Where friends meet and friends are made” is the slogan of Ben’s Friends of the Vine, Rio Vista’s new wine bar and coffee café opening in July at 122 Main Street. Owner, Andrea Cross has been working for the past four months to create a unique and welcoming place to relax and enjoy a good glass of local wine or cup of specialty coffee accompanied by a sweet treat, savory snack, or a light meal. The specialty restaurant is named in honor of Cross’ rescue dog, Benson, who was her best buddy until he sadly passed away in early 2021. Benson brought joy wherever he went accepting and loving everyone he met. What better mascot could there be for a uniquely welcoming place to meet and make new friends?
Cross has been in the hospitality industry for over 34 years in restaurant and catering management. In 2020 she moved to Trilogy, Rio Vista, combining households to help her mom. As she began to explore Rio Vista, she found the warm and friendly atmosphere that makes it the perfect place to launch her lifetime dream business. Together with her team, Operations Manager, Autumn Akers, Ben’s Friends will strive to become the “place to be” in Rio Vista.
Ben’s Friends of the Vine is a cozy place to bring family and friends. Wine tastings will feature local wines (including Six Hands, Michael David, Grand Island Vineyards and more). Charcuterie boards, cheese platters, and chocolate and cheese fondue are some of the unique food experiences that will be offered. Ben’s Friends is also partnering with Rio Vision and the Art and Music Center to host art and music from local artists and musicians monthly. Hours will be Wednesday through Sunday, 11 am to 8 pm.
