Our local St. Joseph Conference of The Society of St. Vincent de Paul, will hold its third annual fund raiser ‘Friends of the Poor Walk’ on Saturday morning September, 19th. This is our major fundraiser and only public appeal. Last year Rio Vista citizens and businesses generously donated $15,000 to our walk. To demonstrate our need, during the last twelve months we distributed $21,617 to our Rio Vista neighbors.
While the Covid -19 pandemic challenges our program, our walk is even more urgent this year as the crisis continues to harm the most marginalized in our community. If health conditions and local regulations permit, we invite everyone to stroll down Main Street with us on September 19th. to bring awareness of those in need, while wearing face masks and keeping safe distances if necessary.
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an independent Catholic lay charity established in 1833. Our mission is to help the poor regardless of race, creed or sex. Our local St. Joseph conference was started six years ago. Since then we have distributed $80,458 in aid to 514 families in the Rio Vista area. Most of our funding comes from local donations; we receive no government aid.
Those interested in making a donation, please make your check payable to SVDP-Friends Of The Poor, and mail to P.O. Box 412, Rio Vista, CA 94571.
