Holy Ghost Festa in Rio Vista This Sunday

Junior Queen Kalia Silva

The Rio Vista Isleton Club will be holding its annual Holy Ghost Festa Sunday, August 7th. This year marks the club’s 123rd celebration of Portuguese culture and tradition.

This year’s incoming queen is no stranger to the Holy Ghost Festa, having served as baby queen and as side maid. Coming in as Junior Queen is Kalia Silva, daughter of Garette and Danielle Silva of Florida. Kalia is well versed in the culture and traditions the club is keeping alive.

The outgoing queens this year, after two years of service, are Kalia’s older sister,
Isabella Silva, and Tessa Miguel, daughter of Norman and Genia Miguel. Isabella has participated long in the Holy Ghost celebration, serving as baby queen, junior queen, Queen Isabel, and side maid. Tessa has served as Queen Isabel, baby, junior, and senior queen. These queens stuck with it through the pandemic and served the club well even during unprecedented times.
The Festa will begin on Sunday, August 7th, at 10:30 am, starting off with the lineup of the infamous parade at the RVIC Hall, 295 S. Seventh Street. The parade will be followed by mass at St. Joseph’s Church at 11:30 am. This year’s Grand Marshal is Owen Jelly. There will also be traditional serving of sopas, perfected by the DaCruz Family, the first feeding open to the public, beginning at 10:30 am. The parade feeding following the parade will be reserved for parade participants. At the outside bar, there will be to-go sopas available for sale until sold out.

There will be plenty of traditional foods such as linguica sandwiches, sweetbread, and to-go sopas available all day long for sale or until sold out. So bring the whole family
down for some traditional Portuguese fun!

We, the club, could not have kept our culture and traditions alive without you, the community, remaining with us every step of the way. At its roots, the Holy Ghost Festa is about celebrating traditions and gathering as a community through food and camaraderie. From this little club to your family, thank you.
