On Monday, June 10th, US Congress Representative Mike Thompson presented a $957,752 ceremonial check to Rio Vista for a pending water project. The project is for the capture and reuse of over 300,000 gallons of water a day for the city.
The money will go towards recycling water normally pumped into the Sacramento River from the Northwest Wastewater Treatment Plant on Airport Road, and later, combining and reusing water from the Beach Wastewater Treatment Plant. This will result in saving 700,000 gallons daily.
At the end of the presentation, the news got even better. Congressman Thompson read a newly received text and reported that Rio Vista had been awarded an additional $1,000,000 grant to build a new fire (and potentially police) station.
Congressman Thompson has represented California since winning office in 1998 and today serves on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee. His list of accomplishments is too long for this article, but for more information about Mr. Thompson and his service to the country, see his website at mikethompson.house.gov.
