One of life’s most difficult decisions is having to stop doing something that you love. That is the decision that the leaders of the Children’s Clothing Exchange at Saint Brigid’s Episcopal Church in Rio Vista have to face. Holding the event across the past twelve years has been a joy (twenty-three joys in all), but the church no longer has the ability to continue this work.
The Children’s Clothing Exchange began in January 2009 as a community event where families all across the town exchanged their growing children’s good condition but outgrown clothing. However, community involvement with the event has diminished across the past several years. And, the people leading the event from Saint Brigid’s have aged and dwindled in number as well. As a result, there will be no future Children’s Clothing Exchange events unless new leadership comes forward to take the reins.
The Children’s Clothing Exchange has typically been held on the last Saturdays of January and August. Saint Brigid’s can provide guidance and materials to any group interested in taking over leadership including the bins of “starter” clothing and information on how the event has been organized in the past. For more information, if you and your group are interested in taking over this important community event, please contact St. Brigid’s Episcopal Church at 707-374-2667. This is a message phone number, your call will be returned promptly.
